妖怪の山 ~ Mysterious Mountain An arrange I started at the very beginning of October 2013 and scrapped at the very end of that month. I kind of like the intro? I can see why I may have scrapped it, though: the "chorus" is kind of boring? In retrospect, the 3 acoustic songs were actually a pretty good way to start this compilation, and now I've ruined it by adding these sloppy midi files in front and between them. Whoops.
2.
原曲:おてんば恋娘 This is an acoustic cover of "White Snow" by Further Ahead of Warp that I recorded during the middle of December 2013. I think it's good, so I decided to put it on here. At this point, I was probably finished or close to finishing AIRHEART EP, as well as the first distant journey to you EP "Proof of Existence." Here's the video of me recording the guitars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cgyn4MpsQE
3.
原曲:彼岸帰航 ~ Riverside View First attempt at arranging this song. It's a little busy. If you're a fan, firstly, thank you, and secondly, I'm sure you've noticed I'm not exactly fond of arranging things in minor keys. This was arranged and scrapped on January 13th, 2014.
4.
原曲:彼岸帰航 ~ Riverside View Second attempt at arranging this song, on January 15th, 2014. That's 2 days later. I really wanted to arrange this song, you see. Don't mind the 4 measures of silence; I often leave blank measures in between sections so I know where to focus. Nothing really to say about this except I try going into 3/4 (the time signature of the source tune) for a section, then switching back to 4/4. "Foreground Eclipse did it, so I should've been able to, too," was probably what I was thinking. The intro was to be those arpeggiated chords, and the chorus and the last section use the source tune as a vocal melody. Even the strum pattern in that last section sounds familiar, right? (Only if you're a fan, probably...) Still, I couldn't seem to let go of the original source's minor key (except for the intro, which I suspect is original). - "riverside3.tg" was 8 measures of pop-punk chords with the source melody arranged in a major key on top that I began (and scrapped) on February 26th, 2014. I was trying to make it into a pop-punk group vocal section, but it sounded really stupid. For those reasons, I did not include it in this compilation, but I thought it beared mentioning. "riverside4.tg" is the fourth attempt at arranging this source tune, but it actually became "stoop kid reference" right away. It takes ideas that weren't executed well in riverside2.tg and riverside3.tg and became the second song I felt really good about arranging (the first being "goodnight, goodbye"). "riverside4.tg" was started on March 11th, 2014 and was mostly finished by April.
5.
原曲:フォールオブフォール~ 秋めく滝 Arranged and recorded during the middle of February, 2014. I wanted to arrange a song like You Blew It's "Match & Tinder," the album of which had just been released the month prior. Even now I like to use big "ahhhhhs" in my own songs because of that album.
6.
原曲:ティアオイエツォン(withered leaf) This is a cover of a song by サリー (Sally), originally arranged by ワニ (Wani) with vocals performed by 茶太 (Chata). I think I did pretty good with this one. This was recorded in the middle of March 2014. You can watch the video of me recording the rhythm guitar here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uINnd-mlgk
7.
原曲:おてんば恋娘 A song I started arranging at the end of March 2013, and was branched off into "otenba2.tg" on July 26th. This first branch has too much repetition, plods about for an extra minute, and generally has no direction besides "verse/chorus/verse/bridge/chorus," which is extremely boring. You can hear basically all the parts that became the final version, but I ended up rearranging the entire song into the version on TRUESTAR EP between July 26th and August 4th. So while I technically began this song in March, it wasn't completely arranged until August, at which point all releases up to DOUBLE FAULT EP had already been planned out. This is why it wasn't released until December's TRUESTAR EP. As I'm sure I've mentioned in the liner notes for TRUESTAR EP (as well as the notes for FADE / TIME), the trumpet was a last minute addition, but I've never stated why that was: "otenba2.tg" had a 3rd guitar track that played a single melody in the beginning of the song. This became the intro trumpet, and then the outro trumpet was written inside the DAW once the trumpet decision was made.
8.
原曲:平安のエイリアン A song I started arranging on March 28th, 2013, and decided to throw away the next day. I began arranging what would become "The Pidgeon Man" on that next day, and the tab file is still called "alien2.tg" (I don't often change my tab filenames).
9.
原曲:柳の下のデュラハン My third time arranging "Dullahan Under the Willows" at the beginning of April 2014. The arrangement didn't change very much by the final release in August. This is an obvious riff on american football's "Never Meant;" making up phrases that reference multiple things at once brings me great joy so to fuse Hey Arnold!, american football, and Sekibanki together at once was definitely a highlight of 2014 for me.
10.
原曲:遠野幻想物語、ティアオイエツォン(withered leaf) This was arranged the week after american footballhead, and was finished right before PAX East 2014. It was okay, but I don't think I need to go again for a long time. I hadn't come up with lyrics or vocal melodies at this point. You can also hear the 6/4 bridge section is longer and more drawn-out. I'm glad I cut it shorter.
11.
原曲:不思議の国のアリス This song was arranged near the end of April 2014. I had vocal melodies this time, but still no lyrics. But as you can hear, the arrangement didn't change very much between April and the final release in November. Shortly after this song was arranged, BBB EP was released.
12.
原曲:幻視の夜 ~ Ghostly Eyes This is me trying to rip of the Moose Blood song "Stay Here," which is a good song. This arrangement is in B major so riding the B string during the chorus is only natural. I may or may not revisit this idea. Apparently this is about 2 hours of work, and directly before the weekly deadline, on May 11th, 2014. The same day, STILL EP was released. 2 of the 3 songs on STILL EP were prior Weekly Beats from February. I was thinking about putting the demo of "wasted words" on this compilation but decided not to, since it's literally the same recording as the final version except it has scratch vocals.
13.
原曲:春の湊に This song's title came from one of Kafka's tweets but I forget what or why? I don't know. It was arranged during the middle of May 2014. This sounds like it's in B or E major. I'm not gonna check but I need to cut it out with those keys.
14.
原曲:不思議なお祓い棒 I started listening to Cap'n Jazz at some point during that year, and so here's an attempt at trying to make a song like "Little League," probably. Arranged mid-June 2014. There's an extra 2 beats every 4 measures during the intro (or maybe it's 2 beats less every 8th measure? idk), which I think is a good idea but not done well here. But I think the "prechorus" where the source theme comes in as a "vocal" melody is good.
15.
原曲:桜花之恋塚~ Japanese Flower Arranged in 3 hours on June 29th, 2014. You can tell I just quickly recorded some scratchy rhythm guitar and vocals, and the lyrics and phrasing weren't completely finished. Polished all shiny and neat for November!
16.
原曲:未知の花 魅知の旅 Apparently, I was listening to a lot of Algernon Cadwallader and wanted to try my hand at something "similar." I now know a little better, and can say this is trying a little too hard to be weird? There may be some parts of this worth salvaging but who knows? Arranged at the beginning of July 2014. After this, I wouldn't arrange a new FYW song until the end of September. During that period, I finished UNOWN EP, featuring 2 new songs not arranged for Weekly Beats (along with american footballhead from April). UNOWN EP was finished way ahead of schedule and was the first EP I thought was good enough to "promote" ie. have it posted on forums and stuff. I remember reading through a thread and someone anonymously gave "stoop kid reference" high praise. I'll never forget that; I think I have a screenshot on twitter somewhere.
17.
原曲:ラストリモート Arranged at the end of September 2014 because "I wanted to arrange a song and use a trumpet." This is based off of malegoat's "ignore." Is this version a little slower than the final version? A few weeks after this, REWRITE EP was released.
18.
原曲:赤より紅い夢 Around mid-October 2014 (a week after REWRITE EP was released), when the idea for a Find Your Way album was coming together, it was only natural I'd want there to be an intro track. All the doujin greats have intro tracks, right? In the end I scrapped it but I feel like I could use it down the road. I also used it as the live intro during Rochester Chip Fest 2014.
19.
原曲:ほおずきみたいに紅い魂 So I arranged that previous intro track on October 20th, and that meant I basically had 2 weeks where I didn't have to work on any weekly music. I probably worked on the distant journey to you album or something. Anyway, I put off arranging a new song until the last minute, so this was made at the very beginning of November 2014, around the 2nd. This actually started with only the intro guitar riff, which, if my dates are accurate, I came up with in May. I guess I happened to come back to it in my desperation and the rest of the song (with lyrics) came out.
20.
原曲:封じられた妖怪 ~ Lost Place Arranged the week after Burger King. Basically, the end of October through all of November was "arrange new songs for the album" time. While the arrangement was basically done when this was recorded, I remember simplifying the lead guitar parts so I wouldn't have to try hard to record this demo. The general idea for the song comes from Free Throw's "Good Job, Champ." They might even be in the same key... whoops. The week after this was recorded would be Rochester Chip Fest 2014. DOUBLE FAULT EP was basically finished, featuring Weekly Beats from April and June. I burned a few (<25) copies of a compilation of the 4 FYW EPs released in 2014 + DOUBLE FAULT EP, so technically DOUBLE FAULT EP was available before the final release on November 24th.
21.
Originally by Foreground Eclipse. This is a cover I did at Rochester Chip Fest on November 15th, 2014. You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9DbJu234bE This was the last song of my set and I forgot my water bottle before starting so by this point I was seriously parched. This song isn't exactly the easiest to sing, either, so my vocals at the beginning are a little rough. Mostly I'm happy my voice didn't actually crack like it did during practices leading up to this show. In case you haven't seen the video: 1:01 another performer, echologi, brings me a cup of water and I say "My hero~" and then make some strange noise 2:00 I stop playing guitar to have some delicious water 2:30 the visualist performing with me, enerjawn (Storm Blooper), puts up some funny visuals and the crowd gets a laugh 4:40 Since I'm not actually playing for people who know what Touhou is, my "Strongest ⑨" t-shirt is wasted on them.
22.
原曲:恋色マスタースパーク This version was arranged the week after "Dino," in mid-November 2014. I consider the final version of "Blueberry Chill" a personal achievement so to be able to have an earlier version that sounds so different is a real treat for me. Usually the basic song ideas are fleshed out right away but as you can see here I ended up putting a lot more work into the final version. I don't think I came back to work on this song until after the release of TRUESTAR EP in December. The song basically started from the intro rhythm guitar riff, but you can hear in this version the lead guitar during the intro was more complex. The "chorus" is 10 gorillian times longer, as well, and the lead guitar (which uses the source tune) wasn't arranged yet. I'm glad that part was cut shorter. But for the most part, the song structure is finished. The decision to use trumpet didn't come until after TRUESTAR EP. Funnily enough, I hadn't come up with lyrics or vocal melodies at this point, which, in the final version, is where most of the actual source tune is. So this version has very little (if any) of the Touhou source in it. Oddly, I hadn't come up with a song title for this song at this point, which leads me to believe I was possibly thinking of scrapping it. This is why I submitted it to Weekly Beats as "masterspark.wav."
23.
原曲:リバースイデオロギー This is the song I attempted to arrange immediately before starting "fantasy life!," on November 30th 2014. Often I would wake up on the day of the weekly beat deadline and wonder why I would do this to myself.
24.
原曲:輝く針の小人族 ~ Little Princess I think fantasy life! is another personal achievement, and apparently I arranged it completely in about 4 hours on November 30th 2014. I used a lot of the source tune, and it's easily recognizable. That's something I'm very proud of considering how often I feel neither of those things happen in Find Your Way arrangements. This song is based on Snowing's "Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit" EP in general so just check it out. I didn't arrange any new FYW songs in December, instead spending the entire month focusing on TRUESTAR EP, the original release of the distant journey to you's "morningview," and moving back into my parent's house.
25.
原曲:幻視の夜 ~ Ghostly Eyes、蠢々秋月 ~ Mooned Insect This is a cover of a song by 9bFOX. The original title is ナイトバグ2 (Nightbug2). I recorded it on the 27th of January, 2015. I think this came about because I wanted to cover this song so I just recorded this on the fly based on the original. I didn't even know all the words or the proper phrasing. But after I recorded this, I immediately opened up tuxguitar and started arranging what would become the (FYW ver.). You can even hear some ideas that made it into the final version in this first version. I think this is the recording where I decided to do the first covers EP. The Shinigiwa Satellite cover was actually pretty much completely arranged but I didn't know what I was gonna do with it. I wanted to release the covers EP and the album at the same time, for Reitaisai 2015, but the album production was pushed back (which I am grateful for).
26.
原曲:封じられた妖怪 ~ Lost Place、暗闇の風穴 This was an attempt at covering Foreground Eclipse's "You May Not Want To Hear This But." I spent a day working on it before I decided it sounded too much like the original and scrapped it on the 2nd of February, 2015. This would've been about a week after the decision to make I COULD COVER..., but I hadn't yet pinned down what Foreground Eclipse song I wanted to do. I attempted to rearrange "White Wind" after this, but it literally just became a tab for the song. And then I started working on a "Throve Keys" cover, which, if you've listened to the EP, turned out all right. Using a trumpet in that song was enough for me to feel like I was making a "different version" of the song, even if it's basically the same arrangement. I had actually completely forgot I had already tried covering this song until I went digging in the garbage folder, so finding this was a pleasant surprise. There are some good ideas here... Maybe you'll see an updated version of this in a future release???
27.
Here's a frikkin' original song I came up with in my sleep but it actually sucked when I wrote it down. Isn't it weird how you can hear the greatest song ever in your head but when you get it on paper it's a big stinker??? The vocal hook here is actually really good, and the lyrics I came up with aren't horrible (probably?), but it's in B major and sounds like every other song in B major I've released so I decided to throw it away. I wrote this out on February 25th, 2015. Find Your Way probably won't release any original songs for the foreseeable future, but I wouldn't object if I managed to write something good.
28.
原曲:ヒロシゲ36号 ~ Neo Super-Express The songs that were released on SECRET MIND EP were basically all arranged and had lyrics in March 2015. This is a demo I put together to help prepare denshuto and siggy for Yawaraka Hardcore 2015. Regrettably, I didn't arrange many songs besides those 3 before August, as I was focusing on the FYW album, the "morningview" remaster, and the trip to Japan.
29.
原曲:幻視の夜 ~ Ghostly Eyes、蠢々秋月 ~ Mooned Insect This is a cover of a song by 9bFOX. The original title is ナイトバグ2 (Nightbug2). This was recorded on August 14th at Yawaraka Hardcore Summer Festival 2015. I'm really glad I was asked to play this event in Japan. How sick is that? It was a real pleasure to meet a bunch of artists I admire from afar. And it was an honor to share the stage with Fukkan of 9bFOX. I have regrets about the trip and the live, of course, but nobody's perfect. Hopefully you, the discerning listener, can look past the sloppy playing and quiet vocals and feel our energy, and the room's energy. I can't wait to go back. The next show will be even better.
30.
原曲:あなたの町の怪事件 So I put this compilation together yesterday (November 27th, 2015) and decided this morning that I wanted to put "something new" on it. While I think there's a lot of interesting stuff already, there might be a few people chomping at the bit for that "something new," yeah? So I recorded this today on November 28th. This is a song I arranged in late October. Including this one, I arranged 5 new songs between returning from Japan in late August through October. Regrettably, I haven't made demos for them besides this one just now, but I'll probably make a few more so I can put them on my phone and stuff. This song is based off the general feelings of ウワサノペタルズ (Uwasa no Petals "Rumor's Petals") songs in SHOW BY ROCK!!, specifically 流星群 (Ryuuseigun "Meteor Shower") and イナズマ (Inazuma "Lightning"). The lead guitar is simplified because playing acoustic guitar is hard, and I'm not good at playing guitar in the first place. I recorded this song being recorded, except for the lead guitar parts; you can watch that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw83rkmqWjA

about

Normally I write out descriptions and stuff in Japanese in an attempt to emulate Japanese circles, but I thought it would be fun to peel back the mask and use frank English for once.

Here is a chronological compilation of demos and live recordings from the 2~ years between October 2013 and November 2015. The majority of these songs were recorded for Weekly Beats 2014, a challenge where you create a new song every week for the entire year. More than 1/4th of my total songs for Weekly Beats were Find Your Way songs, and a good majority of those ended up being good enough to release in the end. For the record, I did manage to write, arrange, or make something new every week for the entire year of 2014.

Hopefully you, the discerning listener, will enjoy listening to these. There are liner notes about each track in the "lyrics" metadata, so you can read them on your iDevice or even just on the bandcamp page itself without changing pages.

This release, like the majority of Find Your Way releases to this point, is free, but if you can spare a few dollars, I'd be most appreciative. I'm broke as hell. Thanks.

KEY:

"midi demo" - song is in general MIDI

"demo" - either exported directly from tuxguitar as a WAV (tuxguitar on mac is weird and doesn't export the general MIDI audio?) or imported into Logic and given garage band instruments. May or may not have vocals; if it does, they were recorded using the macbook mic

"acoustic demo" - song I recorded using the macbook microphone directly into audacity

"acoustic" - song I recorded using a real microphone, ie. I put some effort into making it

"_.tg" - song that was scrapped because I didn't like where it was going. I didn't "feel it," as it were. I keep a "garbage folder" of songs I start but later decide to throw away; I have added the ones I thought were interesting to this compilation. Note that I did not say any of the songs labeled this way were necessarily "good."
